Today, we continue our series on dementia and how to deal with its presence in senior home care scenarios. Previously, we looked at causes of dementia, as well as recognizing common warning signs of dementia. Now, we will talk about what is potentially one of the most uncomfortable topics: planning for various medical and legal eventualities.
As part of our work providing elderly care in Bryn Mawr, we at Neighborly Home Care believe that people increasingly have the need for better understanding the causes and signs of dementia. Alzheimer’s disease is an unhappy subject to think about, and is difficult on many levels, however, the disease is a reality for many. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1 in 9 Americans suffers from the malady, and that includes roughly 1/3 of all Americans over the age of 85.
