Can Technology Help Revolutionize Bala Cynwyd Home Care?

Bala Cynwyd Home CareEveryone knows that we are in a fast-changing world with new technologies appearing at a rapid pace. Can some of those new technologies also help with Bala Cynwyd home care? Yes! In fact, here at Neighborly Home Care, we are extremely interested in the potential of new technologies for improving aspects of senior life.

Listed below are several we think have potential.

Three New Technologies That Can Improve Bala Cynwyd Home Care

Artificial Intelligence

A.I. technology is getting better every day. Consumer-level products like Siri and Alexa are becoming surprisingly adept at understanding human speech and carrying out complicated instructions. In particular, Siri/Alexa can be paired with “smart home” automation systems to greatly reduce the burden on those with mobility issues. Tasks such as turning lights on and off, listening to music, or watching television can now be handled with only voice commands.

Robots

Robotics, of course, go hand-in-hand with AI. Robotic pets are becoming increasingly sophisticated, responsive, and life-like. A robotic cat could be an excellent option for people whose mental issues prevent them from taking care of actual living creatures. Such devices have already shown genuinely positive results among dementia patients.

On a longer timeline, researchers are interested in the possibilities of robotic nurses.  Japan is already testing robotic nursing companions capable of tasks such as lifting people and safely transferring them between a bed and a wheelchair.

Social Media

As a more readily-available technology, social media is already revolutionizing the way seniors communicate with friends, family, and the outside world. Thanks to the wide variety of social media outlets online, many options are available which can accommodate communicative disabilities. Someone who had difficulty speaking could use text-based media such as Facebook or Twitter, while those with motor-control issues could use platforms like Skype or YouTube for face-to-face communications.

Beyond existing friends and family, social media can also be a perfect way for seniors to expand their social contacts. As the use of social media rises among older people, seniors have ever-better opportunities to meet other seniors, and find new friends with shared interests.

The families we serve keep saying great things.

I just wanted to tell you how grateful we are that Neighborly Home Care stepped in & took over taking care of my Dad when we really needed it, no questions asked. Our caregiver has become part of the family and we know we can depend on her being there every day & taking great care of my Dad. He misses her when she’s not there!
